CABB AG required a reliable pump for use in a highly corrosive reaction application. After an in-depth evaluation CABB chose Edwards’ EDP400 system because it provides a robust technical solution that can withstand the harsh processes.

The EDP400 pump system is based on Edwards’ oil-free, non-contacting reverse claw mechanism. It provides consistent vacuum at high efficiencies, with pumping speeds of 400m3h-1. The dry pump completely eliminates all problems of process contamination and creation of polluted effluent, which are experienced with traditional wet vacuum pump technologies. The non-contacting mechanism in the Edwards pump provides long life and high reliability, with a minimum pump life expectancy of 25 years. As a result, it requires less maintenance and provides a low cost of ownership.

“We worked closely with CABB to fully understand the challenges of their process requirements,” says Rudi De Koninck, sales manager process industries, Edwards. “At Edwards we have extensive experience in providing pumps for similar applications and recommended the EDP400 dry pump as a reliable and robust solution. It will enable CABB to increase efficiency of its process as there is no pump corrosion and achieve a lower cost of ownership through less maintenance and downtime.”

Edwards provides comprehensive application and technical support to its customers, including field and on-site services and technical training. The team installed the system and advised CABB’s engineers on temperature profiles, how to best control the pump and on fine-tuning the inlet purge and gas ballast for optimum performance.

“The manufacturing of our fine chemicals is an extremely harsh and corrosive process,” says Reto Brogli, Project Engineer Technical Services CABB. “Since installing the Edwards system we have been very pleased with the high performance and we just ordered a second pump for our Multipurpose Plant. We have been assessing the pump’s operation regularly and after six months it has shown no signs of corrosion.”

Czech brewery Velké Popovice relies on technology from KHS: at the heart of a new glass line is the Innofill Glass DRS ECO filler. Velké Popovice uses the unfilled beer to cool the vacuum pump and thus save energy. With the installation of the rest of the line’s dry section planned for the start of the coming year, the brewery is thus relying solely on KHS technology – that also includes a number of holistic digital service solutions.
