ABS Provides Equipment in Half the Time
When several large pumps were needed urgently to a hydro-electric dam construction in Canada, ABS went all out to prove its ability to deliver faster than expected. Cutting the delivery time in half, ABS delivered ten ABS submersible sewage pumps J 604 including various accessories before the agreed deadline.
Canada is the largest producer of hydro power in the world. In fact, there are about 450 hydro-electric power plants in Canada, and a number of additional smaller hydro plants that together produce 350 TWh every year.
Dewatering of a cofferdam
The dam construction, which ABS delivers equipment to, is located in Peribonka, Northern Quebec, Canada and is conducted by Hydro Quebec. The finished dam will be 80 metres high and 700 meters wide, producing 2,2 TWh of electricity a year. The ABS pumps are used in the dewatering of a cofferdam, which is needed for the construction of the actual dam.
Fast delivery
The contractor, Excavation Chicoutimi Inc., needed the equipment quickly, giving ABS little time to deliver. Exceeding all expectations, ABS was able to supply the pumps even faster than agreed, using air delivery from the manufacturing unit in Sweden.
Half the normal delivery time
"The main reason for ABS getting this order was the short delivery time", says Roger Edlund, Production Planner, at the Swedish manufacturing unit. "We handled this order, from the first indication to full delivery, in only half the time an order of this size normally would take."
