Machine-to-machine communication will be the catalyst to robust growth of sensors and related electronics to measure the status of air, water, combustion gases and other gases and liquids used in fossil, nuclear and renewable energy power generation.

The Gorman-Rupp Company reports financial results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2016.

National Oilwell Varco reported a third quarter 2016 net loss of $1.36 billion, or $3.62 per share. Excluding other items, net loss for the quarter was $128 million, or $0.34 per share. Other items totaled $1.09 billion, pretax, consisting of a $972 million goodwill impairment and $116 million of other charges primarily associated with severance, facility closures and write-offs of certain assets.

Pentair announced third quarter 2016 sales of $1.2 billion. Sales were up 9 percent compared to sales for the same period last year. Excluding currency translation (“FX”) and contribution from acquisitions, core sales declined 2 percent in the third quarter.

Large utilities are expanding through merger and acquisition. As a result, 100 power generators around the world buy more than 50 percent of the products and services. These operators are expanding into wind, solar, biomass, geothermal and other renewable fuels.
