Ulf Berg new CEO of Sulzer
The Sulzer Board of Directors appointed Dr. Ulf Berg (53) as new Chief Executive Officer of Sulzer Ltd. He replaces Fred Kindle who will resign from this position.
Ulf Berg, currently CEO of SIG Beverages AG, Neuhausen, will assume his position at Sulzer during the course of the second quarter 2004.
For over twenty years, Ulf Berg held demanding leadership positions in the power generation group of ABB in Europe and the USA; he was ultimately responsible for the global activities of ABB in the industrial power production sector. In 1999, he became COO, later CEO of the internationally active electronics group Carlo Gavazzi Holding Ltd. After the development and subsequent sale of his interest in an energy counselling company from 2001 to 2003, he took over as CEO of SIG Beverages, Neuhausen, in June 2003.
Based on his former industrial activities, Ulf Berg is familiar with the business areas that are of particular relevance to Sulzer. This especially accounts for pumps, turbomachinery services and surface technology as well as the global power, oil and gas markets. Ulf Berg has profound experience in restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and the integration of businesses. Both, at ABB and Carlo Gavazzi, he substantially increased sales and profitability in his respective business areas.
Ulf Berg explains his transfer to Sulzer as follows: „The responsibility as chief executive officer of Sulzer is a unique challenge. Sulzer has the right strategies to succeed in a global, industrial, and highly competitive environment. I look forward to shaping Sulzer’s promising future with a strong and competent executive management team.”
Ulf Berg is a Danish citizen; he graduated from the Technical University of Copenhagen, and began working in Switzerland in 1977. He is married and speaks five languages.
