Wilo Commits to Ambitious Climate Protection Targets

19.10.2021
The Dortmund-based technology company Wilo has signed the so-called "Business Ambition for 1.5 °C". As part of the campaign of the "Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)", companies and organisations commit themselves to reducing global pollutant emissions to zero by 2050 and thus to limiting global warming to 1.5 °C.

At the same time, Wilo is following the call of various UN organisations such as the UN Global Compact and committing to defining science-based emissions targets.

"In doing so, we are deliberately underlining the urgency and relevance of sustainable thinking and action," says Georg Weber, CTO of the Wilo Group. "Climate protection is part of our business model and firmly anchored in our corporate culture. Our solutions give people all over the world access to clean drinking water. And they do so in a smart, efficient and climate-friendly way. They also help people cope with weather extremes like floods or droughts."

In order to provide more people with clean water while minimising its ecological footprint, Wilo has set itself ambitious climate protection goals and anchored them in a sustainability strategy. "At our production sites, for example, we consistently implement sustainable and energy-efficient actions. At the Wilopark in Dortmund, we are already producing in a climate-neutral manner. By 2025, we will implement this at all main production sites worldwide", says Weber.

Wilo has already received several awards for its sustainable commitment: the renowned German Sustainability Award (DNP) in 2021 as well as, among others, the TüV certification as a "climate-neutral company at the Dortmund site", the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Gold certification of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) - both for the "Pioneer Cube" administration building.
