Secure, Convenient Electronic Standards Now Available from Hydraulic Institute

04.12.2001

PARSIPPANY, NJ, October 31, 2001 – A full line of pump industry standards are now available for sale in a highly secure format via direct download from the Hydraulic Institute (HI) web site at www.pumps.org.

HI has licensed software from FileOpen Systems, of New York City, to encrypt PDF documents for secure on-line purchase, documents which were formerly sold only in print.

Recognized as the single reference in North America for comparative data of pump types and applications, HI pump standards, all approved by the American National Standard Institute, contain information unavailable from other sources. In fact, based on user surveys, HI has found that over 83 percent of pump tests conducted in the U.S. were specified using the Institute’s pump test standards.

HI pump standards are designed for anyone involved in pumps, including users, consultants, contractors, construction firms, manufacturers of pumps, seals, motors, instrumentation and controls. The complete set of HI standards includes 23 documents, over 1,200 pages in length, making an electronic version more favorable than hard-copy manuals. Standards are available individually, as four different pump type sets, or in a complete set.

“There are numerous advantages to having electronic PDF documents versus hard-copy manuals,” explained Robert Asdal, executive director of HI. “Ready accessibility, easy indexing and full search capabilities are just a few features that allow users to easily navigate directly to the section or reference of choice.”

“The secure process developed by HI’s Tech Support, appears completely seamless to the customer. With help from FileOpen Publisher and Crescent Technologies of North Brunswick, NJ, customers receive an authorization unlocking key code once their order is placed and payment is electronically verified. The authorization code provides confidential and exclusive access to the standards or any other items ordered from HI’s E-store,” he said.

Easy To Use

The process for purchasing HI products on-line is fully automated. First, the customer chooses the documents while visiting the HI E-Store. Then the customer receives the PDF documents via HTTP download. The customers automatically receive a special authorization unlocking key code via email, as part of their order confirmation. Customers enter this code during installation of the packaged document on their hard drive. Once authorized via the Internet, the PDF document can be viewed only on the computer in which it was installed, and cannot be copied or transferred to another computer.
