Eaton is “Triple Award” Winner

10.04.2006

Eaton Corporation is the only supplier to be recognized as "outstanding" by Honda in three key performance categories, including being named the first winner of Honda's Corporate Citizenship Award.

U.S. Engine Valve Company, a part of Eaton's engine valve business in the United States, received the top supplier honor in Delivery, Quality and the newly created category of Corporate Citizenship at Honda's annual supplier conference held March 15 in Birmingham, Ala.

"Quality is a driving force at Eaton and to be recognized by a valued customer such as Honda is very gratifying," said Stephen M. Buente, Eaton senior vice president and president of Eaton's Automotive Group. "To be the only supplier - out of a supply base of more than 600 - to win a Triple Award is affirmation that our continuous focus on being an automotive supplier of unmatched quality is reaping results."

Eaton, the world's largest producer of engine valves, was given the first Corporate Citizenship Award because of its leadership in the areas of environment, diversity, government relations, community involvement, health and safety, and ethics and compliance.

"Just as Honda sets high targets for customer satisfaction, we also set high targets for our relationship with society," said Akio Hamada, Honda of America Mfg. president and CEO. "Our goal is to be viewed as a company that society wants to exist. This means very specific expectations for ourselves and our suppliers. To emphasize the importance of this area, we have established a new supplier award."

Eaton's U.S. Engine Valve Company, located in Westminster, S.C., is a partnership with Nittan Valve Company and produces intake and exhaust valves for North American-based vehicle manufacturers, including Honda. Eaton has a long history of innovation and expertise in valve train technology, resulting in innovations such as variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation technology.

Eaton Corporation is a diversified industrial manufacturer with 2005 sales of $11.1 billion. Eaton is a global leader in electrical systems and components for power quality, distribution and control; fluid power systems and services for industrial, mobile and aircraft equipment; intelligent truck drivetrain systems for safety and fuel economy; and automotive engine air management systems, powertrain solutions and specialty controls for performance, fuel economy and safety.
