With deep roots in precision metalworking - stainless steel stamping, lamination and cast-iron casting - the company was well-positioned to move into pump manufacturing. That foresight paid off and today, DAB produces more than two million pumps annually and reports a turnover exceeding €430 million.
“The foundation of our success has always been understanding what installers and building professionals actually need on site,” says Adam Ferneyhough, Country Director for the UK & Ireland. “We don’t innovate for the sake of it; our product teams are constantly working to make installation and operation as easy and reliable as possible.”
The company’s early success in Italy paved the way for international expansion in the 1990s. A pivotal moment came in 1996, when DAB joined a major multinational group, gaining global resources while retaining the autonomy to keep innovation at the heart of its operations.
Between 1998 and 2009, a wave of strategic acquisitions - Alma Pumps, WaCS, Leader Pumps, Tesla submersible motors and Brisan - broadened DAB’s product portfolio and strengthened its market position across residential, commercial and industrial segments.
DAB’s track record of innovation is best seen in its standout product launches - from the game-changing EsyBox in 2013, the first fully integrated electronic pressurisation system, to the quiet, efficient Evosta circulators designed for noise-sensitive environments like schools and hospitals. Digital tools like DConnect, launched in 2019 and the homeowner-focused DAB LIVE! app, introduced in 2023, have further cemented DAB’s reputation for making water management smarter, simpler and more connected.
Now operating in more than 150 countries, DAB’s UK base in Colchester remains a vital part of the company’s future strategy, offering technical support, logistics and installer training tailored to the UK market.
“What’s driven our progress over the decades is a mindset of continuous improvement,” continues Adam. “We’re always exploring how technology, design and service can work together more intelligently. That spirit of innovation is embedded in our culture and it’s what will shape the next 50 years of DAB.”
With smart systems, sustainability and regulatory change on the horizon, DAB Pumps is not just marking a milestone, it’s setting the stage for the future of water management.
