BPMA Presents Seminar Paper at Utility Week Live
Steve Schofield, Director and CEO of the British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA) will be presenting a paper at this year’s Utility Week Live exhibition, running on 17 & 18 May at the NEC in Birmingham.
Steve will be participating in the afternoon session on Tuesday 17th May which will examine the latest approaches to managing down energy costs, looking at on and off site generation and the optimization of assets. It will consider areas such as implementation, feasibility and the all-important business case.
Pumping systems account for nearly 20% of the worlds electrical energy demand and between 25% -50% of the electrical energy usage in certain applications. Pumps and their associated electric motors are the single largest user of electricity within industry across the European Union, consuming over 300 TWh of electricity per annum, which in turn accounts for over 65 Mton CO2.
It is also well documented that rotodynamic pumps which account for 80% of the installed base are between 20-30% oversized. There is therefore a major potential to save energy if rotodynamic pumps are properly sized and operated.
Steve’s presentation entitled ‘Optimizing energy consumption in pumping systems’ will give some basic information and guidance on the purchase, maintenance and design of pump systems for optimum efficiency.
Established in 1941, the BPMA is the UK Trade Association representing the interests of the UK manufacturers of liquid pumps.
As its CEO, Steve manages a small team which provides information to members on a range of Technical, Training, Standards, Legislative, Marketing and Energy related activities.
Since joining the BPMA he has been actively involved in many of the European Commission energy programmes such as “Pump SAVE”, “Motor Challenge”, “ProMot” and “DEXA.
He was involved in the working group, which produced the international guide on Pump Life Cycle Costing. He also worked with Future Energy Solutions to produce the Best Practice Guide on Variable Speed Pumps and then subsequently took on the task of secretary for producing the international guide for Variable Speed Pumping. This in turn led to him overseeing the international guide for System Efficiency in Rotodynamic Pumping Systems.
