23.06.2004

Mather+Platt South Africa (PTY) (Ltd) and Mather+Platt Pumps India have joined forces covering the middle east, far east and Africa in the re-launch of Mather+Platt 160 years after the original launch in Manchester England.

An agreement was signed between the two companies, on 6 May 2004 in South Africa, whereby Mather+Platt Pumps India (the only remaining manufacturing plant ) supply Mather+Platt SA with both old generation pump spares and new generation pumps which will then be sold into sub-equatorial Africa.

Mather+Platt was founded in 1845 when Mr. Peter Mather and Mr. John Platt joined hands in Manchester England.

  • 1940 manufacturing in India commences with a factory at Kolkata
  • 1950 marketing operations begin in South Africa

  • 2004 Agreement between Mather+Platt South Africa and Mather+Platt Pumps India was signed in South Africa as a joint re-launch of the company to cover the Middle East, Far East and Africa

Dave Johnson the Divisional Manager in South Africa says the response to the launch has been tremendous with enquiries from all over Southern Africa and as far as USA & Canada, Jamaica and West Indies.

We have found that end users with Mather+Platt pumps installed some 40-50 years ago want only OEM parts to give the pumps a second life says Johnson. We now have pumps from water reticulation systems, power stations and fire protection systems in our works for refurbishment.

This is the start of putting the M+P back into Pumps and the Mather+Platt name will again rank with the other large pump companies.
