PARSIPPANY, NJ, August 16, 2000 – As part of the Hydraulic Institute’s (HI) Allied Partner Agreement with the Department of Energy (DOE), a newly developed Pumping System Assessment Tool (PSAT) has been designed and introduced to HI members. The PSAT, a collaborative effort by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the DOE’s Motor Challenge Program, will assist engineers and facility operators in preliminary assessments of how efficiently pumping systems are operating. The PSAT is also well suited for performing plant energy surveys by consultants or plant engineers, and like other valuable energy saving resources, can be downloaded from the HI web site at www.pumps.org.

The new search engine for centrifugal pumps spaix.net combines the advantages of an Internet directory with the technical selection of pumps featuring different search methods depending on the user profile and the type of application. The integrated B2B functions enable fast and direct contacts between pump manufacturers and customers and the automation of business processes to a great extend. With spaix.net VSX-VOGEL SOFTWARE – one of the world’s leading manufacturers of pump selection software – goes ahead with the expansion of its Internet products and services.

Homa Pumpenfabrik GmbH has launched its web site at homa-pumpen.de now. You will find there a complete overview about the products, including planning and selection hints, a facility to order the pump selection software, the latest company and product news and much more. Homa Pumpen is a German based manufacturer of pumps for wastewater and sewage pumping, dewatering, sanitary technology as well as lifting stations and per-assembled sewage sumps.

Unfortunately the web site is currently available in German language only.

Wincaps 7.0 can be used as a valuable tool for searching for the right pump required for a certain job. The program will guide you through a series of choices such as which flow-rate, maximum pressure, fluid temperature etc. the pump must sustain and based on this information, Wincaps will present a range of pumps that comply with the information provided.

VSX plans to present a new pump search engine at the Pump Users International Forum 10.-12. October 2000 in Karlsruhe. This will be an improved version of the internet pump selection system Spaix® Online. The main focus of the development points to the combination of a complete technical product selection with the idea of B2B. There are different ways of search depending from application and user profile, e.g. via duty point, area of application or pump type.

The new Lowara booster selection programme ‘Enterprise’ has been developed in Italy to meet the Italian standards.

A version of the software will be available later this year in English but still only meeting with the Italian standards.

Because of different technical inquiries regarding pumps and pump systems there was added a new service in impeller.net. The online forum is a new public service for discussions between pump users, manufacturers and scientists.
