Xylem Launches New Models of Wedeco Spektron e UV Disinfection Systems

26.11.2014

Xylem Inc. has launched two new models of its Wedeco Spektron ultraviolet (UV) disinfection systems for drinking water. The addition of the models means larger drinking water sites with flow rates higher than 2,000 metres cubed per hour (m3/h) may now also benefit from the highly efficient Spektron series.

Water disinfection through the use of UV technology is both effective and environmentally sustainable. Widely applied today, UV disinfection prevents the formation of undesirable disinfection byproducts, which may occur with conventional chlorine based disinfection. More than 99.99 percent of all pathogens, including chlorine-resistant Cryptosporidium and Giardia, can be rendered harmless in a fraction of a second.

The 2000e and 4000e models expand the Wedeco Spektron series to 14 available systems and are most suitable for municipal drinking water treatment plants, increasing the maximum flow capacity of the series to more than 4,000 cubic metres per hour (26 million gallons per day). They feature the latest low-pressure, high power 600 watt Ecoray lamp technology, reducing lamp count by up to 60 percent, minimizing maintenance, and lowering energy costs.

The series, including the two new models, has been certified by German DVGW[1] directives as well as the US EPA’s UV Disinfection Guidance Manual (UVDGM 2006) to safeguard UV systems.

Tanja Burgschwaiger, Wedeco UV Systems Product Manager for Xylem said, “Until now, plants in the mid-flow range have needed to utilize several treatment trains or other less energy efficient solutions to meet required disinfection standards. With the addition of the 2000e and 4000e models to the Spektron series, we can now offer a highly efficient alternative. Our long lasting Ecoray lamps deliver unmatched energy savings, particularly in dimmed mode, making the new Spektron systems an ideal solution for mid to large size drinking water plants.”

Each model in the Spektron ‘e’ series is equipped with an automatic wiping system. Both the 2000e and 4000e models also feature Wedeco OptiCone flow diverter at the inlet, which ensures even flow distribution with very low headloss regardless of the upfront piping configuration.

Xylem’s Wedeco Spektron 2000e is now available, while the 4000e model will be available in early 2015.
