Correct selection of suitable components for the drive train is essential for an efficient solution, whether in pump applications, motion sequences, processing or machining. The converter product spectrum is extensive, which allows the wide range of requirements for the drive train in the respective sectors to be accurately fulfilled. Conventional selection systems present a catalog of individual products and components from which users can select the elements that suit their solution. This demands extensive know-how on the part of the machine manufacturer (OEM) or distributor regarding the performance capability and technical possibilities of the individual drive components. With a targeted, application-supported selection tool, however, the path to the right product is considerably simplified. This approach is used in the new version of the "DT Configurator" tool from Siemens.

With the selection tool in the new version of the DT Configurator from Siemens, the customer selects the relevant application type from pumps/fans/compressors, motion, processing and machining. The possible applications in each category are then presented, for example fans, conveyors, high-bay racking units, agitators or rolling mills as well as milling, turning or drilling. The user then has to decide between continuous or non-continuous motion sequences with a choice of low, medium or high performance. On the basis of this preselection, the user is presented with suggestions as to which Siemens converter products can be used. Through specific selection according to application criteria, the customer can be sure that the right product has been selected. The sector and applications experience gained by Siemens Drive Technologies through the decades is reflected in this new application-based approach.
