Kirloskar Ebara Pumps has been rewarded with the “Best Kaizen Excellence Award for Consistency” at the 11th Kaizen competition, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The event was held at Nashik Engineering Cluster. Among 103 participants from various companies across Maharashtra, KEPL team “MSD” was awarded and recognized with the Best Kaizen Excellence Award for Consistency-2016.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), founded in 1895, is industry-led and industry-managed non-government organization. It functions to create and sustain an environment conducive to the development of India, partnering industry, Government, and civil society, through advisory and consultative processes.

Kaizen (Japanese term for "improvement" or "change for the better") is a philosophy or set of practices that focus on continuous improvement and eliminating waste. It institutionalizes a process of continuous improvement and innovation in work-practices and method in Lean Manufacturing by encouraging employee’s creativity and innovation.

The Kaizen concept stimulates productivity as an ongoing process in companies. The Kaizen Competition of CII is organized every year to recognize and encourage member companies which give importance to continuous improvements through Kaizen. The competition is conducted for operators and supervisors of member companies from manufacturing and service sectors.

KEPL teams “MSD and JIDNYSA” presented their case studies on “Reduction in tool losses and expenses incurred for tool replacement due to aging” and “Reduction in line- organization loss by enhancing the machine capacity” and “Reduction in Set-up and Adjustment Loss using SMED technique”. The case study started with an introduction of KEPL, followed by problem definition and selection of Kaizen theme, root cause analysis and solutions and its implementation.

Commenting at the occasion, Mr. S. S. Katare, Plant Head KEPL, said “We are honoured to receive this recognition for our Kaizen practices. KEPL started its journey of penetrating the Kaizen culture in April 2013 by introducing innovative schemes for challenging its workforce towards implementing this process. Since last 3 years KEPL is receiving the CII State Level awards consistently for KAIZEN practices.”
