Allweiler Wins Major Order for Irish Power Plant

The pumps are used in a gas/steam combined-cycle power station constructed in Aghada, Ireland by Swiss firm Alstom AG. The client is state-owned power company ESB Power Generation. The order is valued at over 200,000 €.

The combined-cycle power plant contains a steam and gas turbine and is designed to generate 430 MW. The core of the plant is an Alstom GT26 gas turbine.

The ten SETP-series progressing cavity pumps from Allweiler are installed vertically. At various locations of the plant, they move rainwater mixed with leaked oil residues from underground shafts to oil/water separators. The pumps suck up to 48 m3/h from a maximum immersion depth of 1.6 m and with a differential pressure of 1.2 bar. The pumps are installed redundantly for safety reasons.

A major advantage of the Allweiler pumps is their ability to meet the plant’s requirement by adjusting their immersion depths with millimeter accuracy. Other factors were the rapid availability of support during planning and evaluation of the proposal plus the Allweiler’s ability to deliver the pumps in a ready-to-install condition, including the controller. Hanspeter Egger, responsible for the order at Schubag Scheerle & Baumgartner AG: “Besides the good technical solution and competent on-site advisory services, references from previous deliveries as well as Allweiler’s global presence were key factors in Alstom’s selection.”
