Mather & Platt of Isando, South Africa who are the exclusive holders of the Mather & Platt SA trade names, have recently re-launched their own Mather & Platt pump brand back to the South African market. Original Mather & Platt pumps can be found all over Southern Africa in major installations such as SAPPI, MONDI, SASOL, ISCOR, ESCOM, Dept. of Water Affairs & Forestry, Rand Water and various power stations. Many of these pumps have been working for 50 years or more, delivering quality service day after day, year after year. It is this legendary quality and reliability that developed the demand for the re-introduction of the pump brand to South African industry.

Mather & Platt are a member of the listed Hudaco group of companies and supply the following pumps:

  • Mather+Platt -- medium to very large pumps
  • Viking -- gear pumps & strainers
  • EIM -- submersible sludge & slurry
  • Turbosan -- submersible sewage pumps
  • Lowara -- small to medium pumps
  • Mercury -- submersible borehole & industrial motors
  • Vanton -- engineered thermo- plastic corrosive & hazardous material pumps

Mather & Platt are privileged to be associated with suppliers from the top ten pump companies in the world and benefit from their pump technology and global research and development.

The re-introduced range comprises horizontal split casing, multistage end-section and vertical pumps with heads of up to 1800 M to handle duties of up to 30 000 M3 per hour. They are highly suited to industrial, municipal bulk water and power station applications.

While new Mather & Platt pumps will be sourced from Mather & Platt India (the only M & P manufacturing plant in the world) local expert refurbishment and genuine M & P spares and service availability will naturally conform to established Mather & Platt standards. Mather & Platt Pumps division manager Dave Johnson says “Mather & Platt pumps have been serving South Africa, doing a great job for over 70 years, and will still be here in 70 years time. We at Mather & Platt South Africa have over 100 years of experience in pump knowledge and applications and are always ready to help with advice, service and a full range of pumping solutions.”

Clean Alternative Fuel Liquid Ammonia Requires Fail-Safe and Hermetically Tight Pumps in the Shipping Industry

02.05.2024 -

Ammonia is currently at focus as clean alternative to heavy fuel oil that has predominantly been used. The technology employed in order to use liquid ammonia as a fuel must be hermetically tight and guarantee maximum operational safety as the gas is toxic and harmful to the environment. LEWA’s high-pressure diaphragm pumps meet these requirements. Their standard safety mechanisms make them suitable for hazardous, toxic and environmentally harmful fluids such as NH3, even under extreme operating conditions.
