“Given our recent commitment to the Business Ambition for 1.5 °C, it is only natural that we collaborate with Schneider Electric to help us set science-based targets and reach our decarbonization goals,” said Georg Weber, CTO of the Wilo Group. “As the world turned its focus to the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), we aspire to urgently advance our climate leadership and action.”
The central tenet of Wilo’s “Ambition 2025” corporate strategy is to provide more people with clean water while simultaneously reducing the company’s ecological footprint. In alignment with UN sustainable development goal 13 Wilo aims to achieve the following by 2025:
- Reduce carbon emissions by 50 million tonnes
- Achieve climate-neutral production at its own sites
- Save 1.8 terawatt-hours in energy per year through high-efficiency pumps
- Increase to 10,000 energy solution projects per year
- Expand its smart products portfolio by 15% annually
Under the collaboration, Schneider Electric worked with Wilo to strengthen its already-winning sustainability program. Elements of the partnership included a strategic sustainability landscape analysis, identification and prioritization of new sustainability initiatives, and broad internal stakeholder engagement.
“Many world leaders and corporations participated at COP26 to discuss climate change and the need to act now,” Philippe Diez, Partner Sustainability Business Division Europe, Schneider Electric. “Schneider Electric is honoured to be a partner for companies like Wilo to translate strategy and goals into action. We understand what it takes to decarbonize and transition to a zero-carbon economy.”
The partnership expands on Wilo and Schneider Electric’s recent collaboration to jointly develop sustainability efficiency solutions for the water and buildings industries.
