While several companies competed for the job, Voith was selected not only based on price, but because it best understood the plant’s operational needs. “Voith was the one who best understood our requirements,” said Federico Rodríguez Trillo (Director División de Energía in XEAL) during final negotiations.
Targeted scope with long-term perspective
Santa Uxía is equipped with two vertical Francis spiral turbines and the two new runners will be delivered as part of a broader modernization effort, improving the station’s operating range without requiring any changes to the existing technical layout. Voith’s scope also includes dismantling, installation support, and refurbishment of selected components. It aims to increase hydraulic efficiency, reduce wear, and extend the lifetime of the machines while maintaining compatibility with the existing infrastructure.
This project underlines Voith’s growing presence in Spain and strengthens its service footprint across Europe. Building on a solid OPEX track record, the team was able to open the door for larger-scale CAPEX orders.
Foundation for future collaboration
“This order is a strong signal of customer confidence and sets the stage for future cooperation,” says Aitor Aierbe, Head of HyService and Sales VHTO. “We’re already exploring digital extensions and other service opportunities at Santa Uxía and beyond.”
With this contract, Voith once again demonstrates that close customer engagement and technical credibility are key to building lasting partnerships in the hydropower sector.
