Driven by a powerful, highly energy-efficient 4200 kilowatt synchronous motor, the SEZA 24-160 pump unit will handle more than 16,000 litres of seawater per second; the water will be pumped into a piping system to supply Yanbu s industrial park. This pump is being added to the system as part of the upgrading of the seawater pump house. The owner is Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu (Marafiq). The main EPC contractor is Earth Gift for Gas, Oil and Water Technology Co. Ltd. (EarthTech).

The complete pump unit will weigh about 100 tonnes, while the pump alone weighs around 60 tonnes. Each piece of equipment is designed for facilitating easy handling through the existing lifting facilities in the pump house. The wetted parts will be made of seawater resistant duplex materials. KSB is expected to deliver the pump unit to the customer by September 2010. Saudi Arabia is currently undertaking extensive investment in the petrochemical industry.

Excellent access to favourably priced raw materials and the availability of low-price energy are ideal for this branch of industry in Arab countries which now account for almost 60 percent of the global oil and gas reserves. The kingdom will become one of the world s largest producers of granulated urea, ethylene glycol, methanol and methyl.
