At the time of its construction in 1985, 280 of its chalets were connected directly to the sewer line, while the remaining 320 were connected to a sump pit served by a single Flygt pump installed by SACOM – Xylem’s partner in Lebanon.

34 years of faultless pump service
In February 2019, SACOM engineers were called to inspect the sump pit, which was found to be flooded. Remarkably, it was discovered that the Flygt pump had been running without interruption or need for outside maintenance since its installation in 1985 – a period of 34 years of faultless service.

Ready for the busy tourist season
The CP3126 pump was removed for servicing and temporarily replaced with a new NP3127 model. Following its first maintenance procedure in 34 years, the CP3126 was returned to site and reinstalled just three days later, in time for the busy tourist season and ready for many more years of reliable service.

The evolution of Flygt
The Flygt pump installed at Holiday Beach with a C-Type impeller (model no. CP3126MT) was originally launched in 1956 as the world’s first-ever submersible wastewater pump – effectively saving costs, space and time. One of its key features was the self-locking connection, allowing the pump to automatically connect itself upon lowering. Its integrated motor design meant pumping stations could be much smaller, significantly reducing investment costs.

Through the advent of new technology and award-winning innovation, the Flygt pump has undergone a series of enhancements over the years in response to customer challenges. Introduced in 1997, the Flygt N-pump featured a free-flowing hydraulic design called N-technology, preventing clogging and reducing running costs. Further design improvements came in 2009 with the introduction of the Adaptive N impeller, increasing mobility and allowing larger objects and debris to pass through to ensure clog-free, high-efficiency wastewater pumping.

2016 saw the introduction of Flygt Concertor, the world’s first wastewater pumping system with integrated intelligence.
