Flender Introduces New Industry Standard for Gear Couplings

27.03.2026
Optimizing costs over the entire plant lifecycle—without compromising on reliability and performance. This is one of the most important success factors in industry today. Gear couplings are essential for drive applications under harsh conditions, such as in the steel, cement, and mining industries, as well as in the oil and gas industry.
Flender Introduces New Industry Standard for Gear Couplings

With the new N-ZAPEX coupling series, Flender is expanding its coupling portfolio with a series designed to deliver economic benefits over the entire lifecycle. With the highest torque density on the market combined with the greatest displacement capacities, a new standard for gear couplings is being set. The N-ZAPEX is available in two versions, XN and XW, each designed to meet different customer requirements.

N-ZAPEX XN – Standardization for Maximum Efficiency
The XN variant stands for standardization and reduced complexity, as well as an excellent cost-benefit ratio for smaller sizes. Reusable components, the highest misalignment capacities and bore diameters in their class, and simplified installation make the N-ZAPEX XN ideal for users prioritizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

N-ZAPEX XW – Highest technical standards, innovative sealing
The XW version is the gear coupling for large sizes. Its extreme power density, wide range of variants, and exceptional modularity offer users maximum performance and flexibility. With up to 10 million Nm of torque, optimal durability, and ease of service and installation, N-ZAPEX XW is the solution for the most demanding industrial challenges. The patented Hollow-O-Ring sealing concept consists of a continuous rubber hose. It enables high misalignment capacity, quick replacement without special tools, and reduces maintenance effort.

The misalignment compensation capacities in the XN- series are 60% higher and in the XW series 30% higher than those of the previous series. The compact design and low weight of both versions enable straightforward installation and maintenance as well as efficient spare parts management.

“With the new N-ZAPEX gear coupling, we are not only setting new benchmarks but also redefining the industry standard: its compact design, innovative sealing concept, and consistent standardization within the series offer our customers sustainable economic advantages in terms of investment and operating costs—from commissioning through to the end of the service life,” says Dr. Dennis Geers, President of Couplings at Flender.

CAPEX – Cost-effective operation right from the start
Thanks to standardization and modular system components, users can choose smaller, more powerful couplings—which shortens installation times and reduces total costs over the lifecycle.

OPEX – Serviceability and Handling
The compact design of the N-ZAPEX facilitates service and handling. The patented sealing concept—particularly in the XW variant —minimizes downtime; standardized, reusable components further simplify spare parts inventory management.
