Atlas Copco Strengthens Rough Vacuum Sales Team with New Appointments
In keeping with the current drive to expand its rough vacuum pump range in the UK, Atlas Copco Compressors has announced the appointment of two new regional sales managers within its Vacuum Solutions division, Steve Callaghan (North) and Mark Handler (South).

The prime focus of both appointees will be on sales development of rough vacuum pumps, including the revolutionary GHS 350-900VSD+ vacuum pump range, a quantum leap forward in rough vacuum technology, based on Atlas Copco’s proven advanced compressor principles. The GHS VSD+ range offers compelling benefits to manufacturers; including average energy savings of 50 per cent compared to conventional oil-sealed and dry vane pumps, as well as best-in-class noise levels and oil retention.
Covering Atlas Copco’s northern sales territory, Steve Callaghan has joined the company after a twenty-year sales and marketing career with fan and blower specialist companies. This preceded a 12-year period as area sales manager with a leading vacuum pump and systems manufacturer. Steve sees his mission as utilising his extensive technical application knowledge and commercial experience to introduce Atlas Copco’s new range of GHS VSD+ vacuum pumps to key industrial markets.
Steve commented: “My goal is to use my commercial experience and technical knowledge of vacuum applications to generate high value business for Atlas Copco’s revolutionary new range of GSH VSD+ vacuum pumps in key industrial markets.”
Mark Handler occupies a parallel role as regional sales manager for the south of the country. He has gained extensive experience of the high and ultra-high vacuum equipment sector over the past twenty years, specialising in supply and service sales to university and research users as well as to the OEM market and deposition applications within the electronics industry. Ten years of Mark Handler’s career were with the southern distributor of Edwards Vacuum, a company which was acquired by Atlas Copco at the start of 2014.
Commenting on his new role Mark said: “I see this as an outstanding opportunity to be part of Atlas Copco Compressors’ new Vacuum Solutions division in the UK. The GHS VSD+ has already shown itself to be a class above other vacuum pumps currently on the market, and I am keen to raise awareness among manufacturing companies in the South of England about the significant energy savings and production improvements it can provide.”
Atlas Copco’s GHS VSD+ vacuum pump range enables industrial users to precisely adapt their vacuum generation requirements to match the demands of their process. With approximately three quarters of UK companies that employ rough vacuum requiring oil-injected pumps, which are traditionally fixed speed, the potential for manufacturers to derive energy savings from the new variable speed driven technology is massive.
Atlas Copco also markets other vacuum pump types, including liquid ring, rotary screw, piston, vane and vacuum booster pumps, both dry and oil-sealed for rough vacuum applications.
