165 Years Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum
For 165 years, the company Leybold, located at Cologne, Germany, has developed and supplied vacuum pumps, systems, standardized and customized vacuum solutions and after sales services for a wide range of industrial and research-based applications.
Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum offers low, medium, high- and ultrahigh vacuum pumps, vacuum systems, measuring gauges and instruments, leak detectors, valves and fittings, as well as consulting and engineering for complete vacuum solutions with a broad portfolio for specific customer applications.
Heritage for Innovative Development
The foundation stone was laid in 1850: In this year, the company’s founder Ernst Leybold officially took over this enterprise as his own, paving the way for a comprehensive industrial use of vacuum technology. Even after selling the company again in 1970, his vision remained. One of the most important mile stones in the company’s history is the development of the molecular pump by physicist Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gaede.
100 Years Diffusion Pumps
The name of the physicist is also relevant for another very successful pumping type, still being used in effective applications: for 100 years, the diffusion pump has been almost irreplaceable for many high-vacuum processes. With this principle, mixing of the jet and the gas to be evacuated is effected by diffusion of the gas into the jet stream. Modernization of diffusion pumps offer a high potential for energy saving, as in metallurgical applications of vacuum furnaces.
80 Years Rotary Vane Pump Trivac B
The success story of the oil sealed rotary vane pump TRIVAC B started 80 years ago. These general purpose pumps are used in a high variety of vacuum technology applications and are proving their efficiency in industrial production as well as in research, generating pressures in the low and medium vacuum range, as well as backing pumps in combination with other types such as Roots pumps, diffusion pumps, turbo-molecular pumps or cryo pumps.
In the Trivac pump series, operating according to the rotary vane principle, the oil in the pumping chamber serves as sealing, lubrication and cooling. An advantage of the pump is the easy handling of disassembling and assembling. Applications for these models are found mainly where increased performance and a wide range of accessories are required.
25 Years of Oerlikon Leybold Dresden
Not only Leybold Headquarters is celebrating an anniversary: Since 1990 the Dresden location of Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum is integrated into the high technology field of applications with innovative cryo technology. Well-renowned semiconductor companies and research institutes such as the Fraunhofer, Helmholtz- and Leibnitz-Institutes stem from the Silicon Saxony area. As almost every research and industrial area uses vacuum today, the customer proximity of Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum is a decisive advantage – the more as Dresden is the pivot point and center of competence for European after sales services for the entire vacuum pumps range. Major applications of cryogenic technology include aerospace, where rocket elements, satellites, space shuttle items or space station parts are tested in large space simulation chambers.
„Due to this positive development and long standing expertise, Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum disposes of the most elaborated technological know-how of application and processes“, explains Dr. Martin Füllenbach, CEO Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum. „As pioneers of vacuum technology for Process Industry, Coating applications, Analytical methods and applications in Research and Development, we belong to the three largest suppliers in the world. We are proud to assist our customers as specialist already in the early consulting phases of new applications and processes. With our ample after sales services and our local footprint we consider ourselves as reliable partners for our customers”.
The specialists are needed when it comes to the development of application and customer specific systems for vacuum generation and processing gas management.
