With model flow capacities ranging from 0.5 MGD to 7 MGD, it meets various operational demands while delivering superior performance. This comprehensive system, assembled at S&L’s Lenexa, Kansas headquarters, adheres to the Build America, Buy America (BABA) Act, ensuring high-quality, American-made components.

The PISTA Works system combines five critical components into a single, efficient system package:

  • Screen: Specifiers and end-users may choose from different screen options, including mechanical bar screens or fine screens.
  • Grit Chamber: Specifiers can choose from advanced models such as PISTA INVORSOR, PISTA VIO, and PISTA 360 with V-FORCE Baffle. The proprietary S&L vortex grit chamber geometry induces a true forced vortex flow pattern, which sweeps grit hydraulically along the floor toward the center opening to the lower collection/storage hopper. The PISTA Grit Chamber's vortex action results in the industry’s highest removal efficiencies for particles as small as 75 and 100 microns (depending on project requirements).
  • Turbo Grit Pump: The flooded suction S&L TURBO Grit Pump comes in a remote-mounted arrangement and is exclusively designed for the rigors of transporting grit slurries from the chamber to the grit washing and dewatering stages.
  • Grit Concentrator: The PISTA DURALYTE Grit Concentrator is a primary grit washing and dewatering device, separating pumped flow into basic components of water, organics and grit. It effectively washes and dewaters grit, achieving more than 95 percent removal of residual organic material.
  • Grit Washer or Dewatering Screw Conveyor: The PISTA TURBO Grit Washer and PISTA Grit Screw Conveyor produce dry, clean grit with less than 5 percent organic content, minimizing odors and landfill disposal costs. Both options offer industry-leading 95 percent grit retention, ensuring superior performance in the complete grit removal and dewatering process across all flows.

The PISTA Works system is custom-engineered for seamless automation and easy installation. It features a PLC-based control system with QUICKSMART Controls, offering an intuitive touchscreen interface for simplified operation and data management. The integrated screening system provides flexible options, catering to specific project needs.

The design maintains a compact footprint, reducing installation time and costs. Made entirely of stainless steel (available in 304 or 316 configurations), PISTA Works promises durability and dependable service with the lowest life-cycle costs.

From Depths to New Heights: Revolutionizing Wastewater Pumping with Above-Ground Technology

17.03.2025 -

There is a growing trend towards moving wastewater pumping equipment out of an underground environment to increase equipment lifecycles, reduce labor and replacement costs, and increase worker safety. The trend away from submersible pumps toward above-ground pump stations eliminates the frequent pulling and replacement due to clogs and failures and reduces hazards and costs of accessing confined spaces. Read on for an overview of key advantages, as well as examples of how communities have achieved cost savings by moving towards above-ground systems.

Technical Article: Achieving True Ultra-fine Grit Removal

06.02.2025 -

We naturally adjust our expectations within the constraints of what is practical. When we lived in an analog world, we didn’t expect or even easily imagine what would become possible in the digital era. But as technology evolves, we expand our expectations, raise our standards, and eventually become dependent on new levels of performance. That’s what’s happening with grit removal efficiency for wastewater treatment plants and sand removal in potable water plants.
