The newly launched version combines power supply and data communication in a single M12 connector, enabling high dynamic performance, comprehensive diagnostics, and simplified wiring for demanding hydraulic applications.

The DFplus valves have been successfully established in the market over several generations and are now available in their fourth generation with IO-Link Class A as standard communication port parallel to the analogue interface. This IO-Link interface allows users to adjust valve parameters and read out status data during operation. Thanks to galvanic isolation between the operating voltage supply and the IO-Link voltage supply, access to the valve electronics parameters is possible even when the operating voltage is switched off, supporting efficient setup and service routines.

Building on this platform, Parker has consistently advanced the concept into a new IO-Link Class B version, which is now available for DFplus valves. IO-Link Class B is an IO-Link port type that, in addition to the standard IO-Link communication lines, provides an extra, galvanically separated power supply for the power stage. With IO-Link Class B, the complex and costly 6+PE or 11+PE connections are eliminated and replaced by standardized, pre-assembled M12 cabling. Frank Henschke, Product Manager at Hydraulic Valve Systems Division Europe, explains the advantage: “By switching to a pre-assembled M12 connection, the risk of malfunctions is significantly reduced, as these are often caused by connector terminations in the plug-in connections.”

In the DFplus IO-Link Class B version, both the data connection and the power supply are combined in a single 5-pin M12 connector. This configuration allows the valve to be supplied with currents of up to 4 amperes, ensuring that the well-known dynamic performance of the DFplus valve family is fully maintained. To achieve this performance, the use of suitable IO-Link masters and M12 cables is required. Through this single M12 interface, the supply voltage, the digital transmission of the setpoint, digital feedback, and enable/disable functions are all handled via IO-Link, significantly reducing wiring complexity and installation effort.

Beyond performance and wiring benefits, DFplus valves with IO-Link Class B offer extensive diagnostic and service functions. Users can access detailed diagnostics such as temperature, cycle counts, and error states and can perform parameterization directly from the PLC or via service tools. This capability supports faster commissioning, enables condition-based and predictive maintenance strategies, and contributes to higher system availability.

In addition, DFplus valves with IO-Link Class B can be used as shut-off elements up to Category 3, PL d in accordance with EN 13849-1. Safety over IO-Link is achievable due to the galvanic isolation between the power section and the control electronics when used with suitable IO-Link masters, providing both functional safety and high operational reliability in modern hydraulic systems.

The DFplus valves with IO-Link Class B interface are available now in selected sizes and configurations, with additional variants to follow.
