GF Secures Order for Green Steel Project in Key European Decarbonization Initiative
SSAB is building a modern, electrified steel mill with a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per year, capable of delivering advanced products with significantly lower climate impact, supporting Europe’s industrial and climate transition. GF’s Industry and Infrastructure Flow Solutions division will deliver the system based on its Weholite solution to ensure a reliable cooling water supply, a critical component in sustainable steel production. The system will supply water to the shoreline pumping station, from where cooling water will be pumped to the steel mill’s heat exchangers for use in the steel manufacturing process.
“This project is closely aligned with our strategic focus on higher-value applications that enable more sustainable industrial processes. It also underscores our ability to deliver complex turnkey solutions while we continue to sharpen our portfolio and execution in markets with long-term growth potential,” says Thomas Hary, President, GF Industry and Infrastructure Flow Solutions.
The order, awarded by NYAB, a key contractor in the project, includes large-diameter pipelines ranging from DN 800 to DN 1600 mm, with a total length of approximately 12 kilometres, including fittings. GF will also be responsible for welding, assembly and pressure testing of the installed system. The project is scheduled to run from Q2 2026 to Q4 2027.
