Compressor Manufacturer KOHO Sets Sights on International Growth with New Managing Director

KOHO Kompressorsysteme in Hagen is entering a new phase of development. The compressor manufacturer in Hagen, Germany, was acquired by Svanehoj in October 2025 with the ambition to build on its strong technical foundation and expand the business internationally focused on energy transition opportunities.
Leading this transformation will be Jens Wulff, who has been appointed Managing Director of KOHO and Head of Compressors at Svanehoj. He brings more than 14 years of experience from global compressor manufacturer Neuman & Esser, where he held senior positions across sales, operations, and management, most recently as Regional CEO for EMEA & India.
“What attracted me to this role at Svanehoj is the opportunity to build something and make a real difference. KOHO has a strong product basis that is just waiting to be unlocked, and I see great synergies between marine pumps and compressors. With Svanehoj and its owner ITT, we have the platform and international reach to really scale the business”, said Jens Wulff.
Building capacity for international growth
KOHO was founded in 1948 by Alfred Köhler and August Hörter. Today, the company specializes in designing and manufacturing of customer-specific reciprocating compressor systems for hydrogen, hydrocarbons, and other demanding gas applications. The product range also includes gastight bulkhead shaft penetrations for industrial facilities and shipbuilding.
The next phase will add commercial scale, project capacity, and international reach while preserving KOHO’s engineering expertise.
“My first 12 months will be about streamlining the organization and connecting KOHO closely with Svanehoj and ITT. We will hire talented people, build capacity, and better leverage our resources already there. We will prioritize carefully, while pursuing every opportunity for improvement,” said Jens Wulff.
Solutions for marine fuel and land-based applications
In the marine market, closer integration with Svanehoj creates opportunities to offer combined pump and compressor solutions for fuel and cargo handling systems. Wulff also sees significant potential in land-based energy applications.
In the near term, Wulff points to biomethane as an attractive opportunity, where KOHO’s gas-tight reciprocating compressor technology is already well suited to the application. Further ahead, he sees significant potential in hydrogen, and its derivatives like ammonia and synfuels, building on existing technology that can be further developed for larger applications.
“We have the technology and expertise here; now we need to adapt to evolving market needs and expand our reach,” said Wulff.
