Order intake by the core divisions of the Sulzer Corporation for the first quarter 2002 totaled CHF 533 million, matching the exceptionally high level of prior year. Overall, corporate order intake totaled CHF 597 million (–1% compared with 2001, but +4% adjusted for acquisitions, divestitures and currency effects). Sulzer looks to the current year with reserved optimism and expects order intake for 2002 as a whole to exceed that of 2001.

At the end of the first quarter of this year it is with regret that Group Management finds that the uncertainty in the market growth, which also characterized the last quarter of 2001, still exists.

Sulzer looks to the future with modernized shareholder participation rights and a comprehensively renewed Board of Directors. The 88th Annual General Meeting of Sulzer Ltd shareholders approved all Board proposals. Following realignment of the Sulzer business portfolio, the Board of Directors has now been renewed as well.

At Cardo AB’s annual general meeting today, the following members of the board were re-elected: Tuve Johannesson, Fredrik Lundberg, Lennart Nilsson, Bengt Pettersson, Anders Rydin and Kjell Svensson. In addition, Berthold Lindqvist was elected as a new member of the board.

The ABS service concept has helped strengthen the company’s position in the aftermarket. The past year saw further training of service staff, the setting up of local service centres and the development of rental activities for dewatering pumps. The aftermarket area has expanded strongly with a rate of increase that is twice as high as that for other areas.

Inc. (NYSE: GDI) announced today that it has entered into a $200

million amended and restated credit agreement with a syndicate of

ten banks. The agreement provides for $150 million of revolving

credit for a three-year period, amending a similar $125 million

facility which would have expired in January 2003.

Sulzer Pumps increased sales (+11% to CHF 947 million; adjusted: +3%) and operating income* (+10% to CHF 56 million) thanks to concentrated efforts in increasingly difficult markets. The second half-year brought a slight market decline in general, particularly in the pulp and paper industry.

Invoiced sales 2001 reached EUR 306 million (300 MEUR in 2000). The operating profit was 19 MEUR (26 MEUR). ABS continued to expand in the Water and Wastewater segment, as well as in the process industry and in the aftermarket area.
