Increased investment in the water sector in Africa is creating business and growth opportunities across the continent. The global value of the water industry, which includes waste treatment, valves, pumps, filtration and desalination equipment, is now worth about US$400 billion. With all the opportunities the sector presents, the introduction of WaterTec Africa 2009, aimed at showcasing industry opportunities and challenges, is therefore appropriate and timeous.

The 49th Europump Annual Meeting will be held in Stockholm 3 – 6 June 2009 at the city’s Grand Hôtel. The meeting gathers leading pump manufacturers from Europe and the United States to discuss the issues that affect the global pump industry.

Armstrong has launched a new range of twin-head pumps offering even greater energy efficiency and flexibility. The pumps are suitable for higher temperatures and pressures, as standard, than their predecessors. The range encompasses eleven pumps covering a range of duties from to 2.8l/s at 31kPa to 49l/s at 96kPa.

Sulzer further increased its order intake with an adjusted¹ growth of 10.1% (nominal 1.5%) to CHF 4 116.6 million in 2008. The order intake was primarily driven by the strong double-digit growth of Sulzer Pumps. The negative currency translation impact was significant, while acquisitions had only a negligible effect.

The latest addition to the established range of Viking internal gear pumps is an interchangeable, sealless model which is ideal for pumping hazardous, hard-to-seal liquids, or for applications where very low maintenance is important.
