According to statistics, Daily capacity of water supply of Chinese cities has increased 29.6 million cubic meters, Piping length of city water supply has increased 65,000km, daily treatment capacity has increased 13 million tons, piping length of city water has increased 31,500 km, during “ The Ninth Five-year Plan”. In 2001, China had 663cities, with population of 390 million, and 31% of population lives in urban area. The total of water supply in cities was 46.9 billion cubic meters, and daily capacity was up to 218 million cubic meters. Water supply can cover 96.7% of urban population, with daily living water consumption of 220 liters, and saving water of 39.8 million cubic meters. Sewage treatment of cities was 11.3 billion toms, and daily treatment capacity reached 48.40 million tons, with 34.2% sewage treatment; The total piping length of city water supply was up to 142.000 km. With the further deepening of reform and opening to the outside in recent years, the comprehensive economic strength of Shanghai has been greatly enhanced and the total average GDP per capita has broken through 3,000 USD. Shanghai has become one of the international economic, financial and trade centers. Meanwhile, with the upgrading of the living standard are higher and higher. The development of municipal wastewater treatment in Shanghai has experienced more than 80 years, and in the last decade the substantial amount of funds from the government and different social entities were put into this year. Many major wastewater treatment projects, such as Shanghai Sewerage Project, Second Shanghai Sewerage Project and Wujing/Minhang Wastewater Discharging Project have been constructed. The wastewater treatment system has been basically established in the central areas of the city, featured in centralized wastewater treatment as main method and separate local treatment as auxiliary method.
