Watson-Marlow Bredel Put Down Roots in South Africa

18.02.2004

UK-based peristaltic pump manufacturer Watson-Marlow Bredel, a major supplier to the South African mining industry, has bought back its distribution contract from Walter Becker SA and formed a new company, Watson-Marlow Bredel SA.

Watson-Marlow Bredel SA will be headed by general manager Nico van Schalkwyk, formerly sales and marketing manager of Walter Becker SA. Stephan Becker, managing director of Walter Becker SA, has also joined the board of the new company. Watson-Marlow Bredel has been the world leader in peristaltic pumps for more than 50 years, supplying its problem-solving products across a wide range of industries from mining, brewing and food and beverage, to chemical, pharmaceutical and print and packaging.

Announcing the new South African operation, Watson-Marlow Bredel's international group sales manager Bill McKean said: 'We have had an agreement for some years with Walter Becker that we would eventually start our own operation in South Africa, and we believe the time is now right to build on the tremendous foundation Walter Becker has put into our peristaltic pump business over the past 20 years.'

'We look forward to expanding our export market in sub-Saharan Africa and believe Watson-Marlow Bredel SA is the perfect springboard to reach this region,' he said.

Nico van Schalkwyk added: 'The only thing that has changed is the name. All our key sales and technical support staff have moved across to our new premises in Honeydew, Gauteng.' he said. The new SA operation has already kicked in with a R2 million peristaltic pump order from Moroela Platinum Mine in the Northern Province.

Watson-Marlow Bredel is not only the biggest, but the fastest growing peristaltic pump company in the world. The company's pump range matches the demands of valuable, delicate or difficult fluids across all industries. The pumps, which are specifically designed to pump slurries, liquids and semi-liquids, offer high quality and durability with low maintenance benefits. The company has extensive distribution in mining areas including Rustenburg, Potgietersrus, Thabazimbi and Steelpoort.
