The Weir Group PLC 108th Annual General Meeting

29.05.2002

The following is the text of the statement delivered by the Chairman, Sir Ronald Garrick, at this year's AGM.

"I am pleased to report that the Group's performance to date in 2002 has been satisfactory. We are also making good progress in implementing the strategic agenda outlined in our 2001 Annual Report.

The outlook for many of our markets remains uncertain. However, in the first quarter of 2002, enquiry levels held up well and order input for Group subsidiaries was 6% higher than in the previous year. The Water, Oil and Power Generation markets have produced good levels of input but there has been lower activity in the Minerals Processing sector.

It has become a feature of Group performance in recent times to report stronger operating results in the second half of the year compared with the first half and this is likely to be repeated in 2002."
