The Latest Generation of Submersible Motor Pumps

At the start of 2010, the Frankenthal (Germany) based KSB Aktiengesellschaft, will launch its latest generation of submersible motor pumps. Ama-Drainer N pumps automatically drain pits, shafts and cellars, and extract water from rivers and reservoirs.

Each pump generates a maximum flow rate of 14 cubic metres per hour and a maximum discharge head of 12 metres.

Pump operation is controlled by a patented magnetic float switch. As the float switch is designed without a casing passage, it is absolutely tight, wear-resistant and protected against overwinding. A simple locking disc can be fitted to start and stop the pump via an external control system. For stationary operation, the pumps are supplied with a connected float switch; for mobile use they are supplied with a 10-metre power supply cable.

The plastic casing makes this new type series particularly light-weight. Of high quality, corrosion-resistant and designed with a stable handle, the casing is also noise-absorbing, abrasion-proof and impact-resistant. Thanks to its vertical discharge nozzle the pump is easy to install. And it requires little space as no additional components, such as pipe elbows, are required. The discharge nozzle comes with an integrated swing check valve to prevent drainage of the discharge line after the pump has been switched off.

A triple shaft seal with a barrier fluid reservoir provides the seal surfaces with additional lubrication in the event of dry running and ensures a highly reliable motor operation. The pump is driven by a jacket-cooled, single-phase a.c. motor rated at 0.43 to 1.05 kW. The bimetal switch integrated in the motor winding protects the pump from an excessive heat increase. The pump has a frame-cooled enclosed motor which can be operated outside the fluid for a prolonged period of time.

Variant C of the new type series is able to pump seawater or water containing salt; its motor shroud is made of high-quality stainless steel (1.4571). The maximum immersion depth is two metres. The pumps, which come in three sizes, can handle water with dirt particles up to a particle size of 10 mm.

Canned Motor Pump Technology Has Multiple Advantages

13.03.2024 -

Using canned motor technology for submersible pumps provides significant advantages. A short shaft, only two slide bearings – independent from the immersion depth – and various monitoring functions not only ensure high reliability but also mean cost advantages for the operator. Since it is supplied as a lock pump, easy servicing is guaranteed at the same time.
