Sulzer Supplies Pumps for Project in UAE
Sulzer Pumps is supplying both the booster and main pipeline pumps for Fujairah Water and Power Project (Pipelines) in the United Arab Emirates. The multi million dollar contract consists of 4 Booster Pumps type SMN(H) 602-900 and 4 Main Pumps type HPDM 600-900-s+s/30. Stage 1 of the water transport system will be put into operation in the summer of 2003.
The contract was signed with Technip Germany GmbH, Düsseldorf, a subsidiary of the French company Technip-Coflexip S.A., Paris.
The Project
The pipeline system will transport the water produced in the desalination and power plant, via the main pumping station to the storage reservoirs located approximatly 180 km away.
Stage 1 of the project covers the construction of the pumping equipment and storage reservoirs necessary for an initial throughput capacity of 100 MIGD (454,600 m³/day). The transmission system in stage 2 will be suitable to transport 180 MIGD of water (818,280 m³/day). The increase of the throughput capacity from 100 MIGD (stage 1) to 180 MIGD (stage 2) will be reached with the installation of additional booster and main pump units plus the exchange of the impellers in the existing main pumps to suit the new increased head requirements. The pipeline system between the pumping station and reservoirs consists of twin steel pipelines with a diameter of 64" (1.6m).
