Sulzer Pumps Launches New Products Completing the ABS EffeX Range

08.10.2012

Sulzer Pumps has launched four new revolutionary wastewater products at WEFTEC, the Water Environment Federation’s Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. This marks the successful completion of the ABS EffeX range of energy-efficient and reliable wastewater solutions.

The ABS EffeX range was first introduced in 2009 with a product called the ABS submersible sewage pump XFP, the first submersible pump to feature a premium-efficiency IE3 motor. Since then, a series of high-profile launches have followed, including concepts for premium-efficiency submersible mixers and flow boosters, as well as ground-breaking pump control systems.

The four new products launched make the ABS EffeX range complete:

Multi-vane Contrablock Plus pump impellers

The single-vane Contrablock Plus impeller was launched with the ABS submersible sewage pump XFP in 2009. Now, both 2-vane and 3-vane impellers have been added to the series. Contrablock Plus impellers raise the bar for rag handling and blockage resistance beyond anything else on the market today, providing free solids passage of at least 75 mm (3 inches) through the impeller. With the addition of multi-vane impellers, the Contrablock Plus series extends from 1.3 kW (1.8 HP) / DN80 (3 inch) up to 400 kW (536 HP) / DN400 (16 inch) models of the ABS submersible sewage pump XFP. All of the impellers are open, and all feature an adjustable bottom plate that lets the operator easily maintain efficiency and reliability throughout the pump lifetime.

Expansion of the ABS submersible mixer XRW into a full product range

A mixer called the ABS submersible mixer XRW was first introduced in 2010 as a medium-speed mixer concept with a permanent-magnet motor. Now it has been expanded into a full product range, covering high, medium and medium-low mixing speeds. To retain the mixer’s unique blend of energy efficiency and economy, three motor technologies have been used. Medium-speed versions retain the permanent-magnet motor, while the others utilize an IE3 squirrel-cage motor, supported by a gearbox at medium-low speeds. Using the most appropriate motor technology produces the best balance of equipment price, motor efficiency and long-term operating costs.

Completion of the ABS flow booster XSB product range

A slow-running mixer called the ABS flow booster XSB was launched in 2011. Now available in a full range of sizes, all with premium-efficiency IE3 motors, it reduces energy consumption by up to 25%. The composite blades of the mixer have been newly optimized, with 2- and 3-blade propeller designs covering a wide range of thrust requirements. Other major features include a robust 3-stage helical gearbox and oil-lubricated bearings with a calculated lifetime of more than 100,000 hours.

ABS turbocompressor HST 20

A direct-driven compressor called the ABS turbocompressor HST 20 represents the third generation of Sulzer Pumps’ fully air-cooled HST technology for wastewater aeration. It offers exceptional savings from wire to air, providing more air output for every kilowatt put in. This efficiency comes from optimizing the turbocompressor as a whole. Magnetic bearings, a high-speed permanent-magnet motor, a newly designed impeller and a new labyrinth seal design all contribute to the balance. The turbocompressor also features an intuitive, process-optimizing control system, and it integrates silencers and other accessories for a smaller, quieter and more cost-effective installation.
