13.03.2009

Randy Ferman, Manager of R&D for Flowserve’s Pump Division, has been honored as the Hydraulic Institute (HI) 2008 Member of the Year. The award was presented at the 92nd Annual Meeting recently held in Marco Island, Florida.

He was chosen for his significant and sustained contributions to the Hydraulic Institute. Mr. Ferman served as Chairman of the Hydraulic Institute/Pump Systems Matter “Optimizing Pumping Systems” Guidebook (OPS) Committee, leading to publication in 2008 of the 200+ page guide in less than two years. The guide has made a significant contribution to the understanding of the subject matter among end-users and pump OEMs and serves as the basis of new educational curriculum being designed around this issue.

In addition to his work on the “Optimizing Pumping Systems” guide, Mr. Ferman has served as chair and actively participated in numerous other organization initiatives. This included chairing the Vertical Design and Application Committee, which led to the publication of a significantly updated ANSI/HI standard in 2008. He also chaired the Viscosity Correction Committee and co-chaired the Vertical Nomenclature and Pump Applications Guidelines Committees.

“Randy has made major contributions to the Institute, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm, including a broad breadth of participation in numerous initiatives,” said Gregg Romanyshyn, Technical Director for the Hydraulic Institute. “He offers sound ideas and solid leadership to move standards from concept to completion, managing volunteer committees in a very effective manner.”

ANSI/HI Pump Standards are reliable, widely accepted references for anyone involved in pumps, including users, consultants, contractors, construction firms, manufacturers of pumps, seals, motors, instrumentation, controls, and pump software developers and systems integrators. HI periodically introduces new Standards based on industry needs.
