Pump System for Pastes and High Viscosity Products

27.09.2005

Transferring very high viscosity creams, gels and pastes which do not flow, presents a major problem for companies in the food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and process industries. However, liquids handling specialists PUMP ENGINEERING offer the solution ...

...with a CSF piston pump fitted to a twin ram system which enables effective transfer for products as diverse as peanut butter, petroleum jelly, yeast extracts and mascara.

The system works by using a short CSF piston pump mounted in the centre of a follower plate which fits into a drum and seals against the inside of the drum. Two pneumatic cylinders force the plate onto the top of the product. As the pump empties the drum, so the plate is pushed downwards, keeping the inlet of the pump full of the product. A rubber seal on the follower plate wipes the side of the drum as it travels downwards, sealing it and ensuring that very little product is wasted.

The pumps are available as quick strip versions for easy cleaning without the need for tools. For lower viscosity liquids, a long version of the pump is available for emptying tanks drums and IBCs, with a special bag-in-drum inlet which prevents the plastic drum lining used in some industries, being drawn into the pump.

CSF pumps are air operated and depending on the model, will deliver flowrates up to 100 litres/minute with pressures up to 100 bar. Materials of construction are AISI 304 or 316 stainless steel with Viton, nitrile or PTFE seals.

Peristaltic Pump Is Proving Ideal for Swimming Pools

10.02.2010 -

Although only introduced last year, the Verderflex Aura peristaltic dosing pump is already making waves. This model is ideal for low flow, high pressure dosing applications and the facilities that are already benefiting from its introduction are leisure centres, swimming pools and saunas. The Aura is proving a superior alternative to reciprocating piston pumps thanks to its unobstrusive design, silent running and immunity to off-gassing and vapour locks.
