Fairbanks Morse Presents New Product/Service at WEFTEC 2000

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS, October 31, 2000 – During the recent WEFTEC 2000 trade show in Anaheim, Fairbanks Morse presented a new alternative in submersible pumps – the submersible vortex – currently available in cast iron construction. This unique design is capable of handling heavier concentrations of stringy, fibrous material, which are not suitable for conventional solids-handling pumps.

  • National Oilwell to Acquire Maritime Hydraulics Canada

    HOUSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oct. 30, 2000–National-Oilwell, Inc. (NYSE:NOI) today announced that it has signed, through a wholly-owned subsidiary, a Memorandum of Understanding with Aker Maritime ASA (OSE:AMA) to acquire the stock of Maritime Hydraulics (Canada) Ltd. for a total cash purchase price, including the assumption of certain debt obligations, of Canadian $25 million (approximately U.S. $16.5 million). The transaction is expected to close in January 2001.

    ABS introduces a new model in the JUMBO® range of contractor pumps for powerful dewatering of abrasive water from construction sites, mines, ships, docks and flooded areas.

    The new model JUMBO® 205 is a 21 kW pump for high head or high volume.

    Sulzer Medica not to merge with Sulzer

    The proposed merger between Sulzer Ltd and Sulzer Medica Ltd will not take place. The Boards of Directors and the Executive Management of both companies have acknowledged the critical assessment of this planned move by the financial markets. Sulzer Industries will continue the focus on Materials and Surface Technology. Sulzer Medica will further expand its core businesses of Orthopedics, Cardiovascular Prostheses and Dental Implants.

    Better pumps for aircraft de-icing vehicles

    New Lowara pumps are hydraulically powered multiphase centrifugal units, which run at 2.900 rpm and throw 13 m3 per hour at 12 bar giving overall better performance from a more compact scale. A particular innovation for this new design of de-icer is the use of a single, relatively small and light – yet high performance – pump. The vehicles being replaced had large, heavy, cast iron gear pumps which had many problems, most of them expensive.

    Giant boiler feed pump passed the test

    On 28 September KSB Aktiengesellschaft, Frankenthal, tested the largest feed pump ever built since the foundation of the company 125 years ago. The full load pump weighing around 40 tonnes is intended for the new 1000 MW block of a lignite-fired power station in Niederaussem near Cologne.
