  • Strong Sulzer performance for 2000

    Sulzer Pumps sales increased by 21% (11% adjusted for acquisitions) to CHF 855 million (prior year: CHF 709 million). This is attributable to the improved market situation in the second half of the year, particularly in oil and gas, power generation as well as pulp and paper markets.

    Sulzer: Formation of two fully independent pure-play companies

    At the annual press conference on March 9, 2001 Sulzer presented its concept of separating Sulzer and Sulzer Medica. The annual general meeting of Sulzer AG on April 19 is to decide upon the spin-off. This separation will result in two fully independent companies clearly focused on their respective core businesses.

    Submersible water pump for harvesting rain water

    As one of the highlights at this year’s ISH, KSB Aktiengesellschaft, Frankenthal, will present a submersible motor pump for floating-suction water intake with an external mains water back-up system to DIN 1988. The new Hya Rain U primarily caters to the needs of home owners who cannot employ a pump working by suction, because their rain water collection tank is located too far from the house. As the pump set is inside the tank and does not make any noise, the system is suitable for use close to living quarters.

    ABS: Annual Report 2000

    Invoiced sales 2000 reached EUR 300 million (280 MEUR in 1999). The operating profit was 26 MEUR (28 MEUR). ABS continued to expand in the Water & Wastewater segment, as well as in the service field.

    Flood Control Project

    Construction is advancing ahead final of schedule on the final elements of a $40-million flood control project along the Mississippi River to protect historic Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. Designed to protect the town from an urban design flood, which exceeds a 500-year flood, the project has involved construction of 3-1 /2 miles of levee; two railroad closure structures; a 260,000-gpm combination pump station and gravity drain structure; a 500-acre ponding area; a wetlands mitigation area; and related improvements.
