In addition, compliance with regulations can optimize internal processes and make them safer for employees. For those reasons, the pump manufacturer and system integrator LEWA GmbH had its certifications according to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 reviewed by a team of auditors in October 2020. "The audit was necessary because ISO standards must be re-certified every three years," explained Alexander Stanica, Head of Quality & HSE at LEWA. "In addition, the previously valid occupational health and safety management standard, OHSAS 18001, was replaced by ISO standard 45001:2018, so our compliance with the specifications had to be re-examined." Both standards were evaluated in parallel during a three-day audit. In particular, compliance with newly issued ISO standard 45001 was closely examined, as the globally applicable standard specifies the requirements for occupational health and safety management systems. By complying with the measures, LEWA ensures greater safety at the workplace as the risk of injuries, accidents, and work-related illnesses among employees is demonstrably reduced. "At our own request, the audit was carried out by a new team in consultation with the testing institute. We had worked with the same team for several years and we expected the new team to give us a different view of our processes and also point out where we could improve," reported Stanica. Since LEWA permanently monitors its own processes by means of a closely meshed, high-quality internal testing system, both certifications were successfully completed without any objections.
