New Vertical High-Pressure Pump

05.10.2004

The new Movitec high-pressure pumps from KSB Aktien-gesellschaft, Frankenthal, represent the next stage of technical development for the tried and tested Movichrom series. They will be available from October this year and are offered with nine different hydraulics.

All wetted components are made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel (1.4301 or 1.4004). Therefore, these pumps can be employed universally and are suitable not only for use in municipal applications but also in industry, power stations and building services.

They offer a high level of operating reliability, since a torsion-resistant pump shroud surrounds the stage casings. This means there are no partition lines on the outside. Two confined O-rings prevent leakage at the casing in the event of considerable temperature fluctuations. As the space between stage casings and pump shroud is filled with water which dampens flow noise, the pumps are extremely quiet during operation.

A standardized mechanical seal to EN 12756 seals the shaft at the motor end. Self-cleaning plain bearings made of tungsten carbide or ceramics ensure the rotor is always kept in an exact position, preventing the impellers from rubbing at the casing. The flattened sides of the high-alloy steel shaft make for a positive locking connection between impeller and shaft.

A combination of in-line configuration of suction and discharge nozzles and vertical pump set design facilitates mounting. The configuration also allows a piping layout requiring little space and is resistant to external forces and torques acting on the nozzles. The pumps are driven by two- or four-pole, air-cooled three-phase motors whose dimensions are in compliance with IEC. Pumps with single-phase a.c. motors come as variants. Depending on the design, the pumps can be used for fluids with temperatures ranging from -15 to +120 °C and system pressures up to 40 bar.
