Mono Makes Its Mark at the BPMA Awards

30.06.2003

Mono Pumps is celebrating the success at the recent British Pump Manufacturers Association Awards of a project in which it was involved. The project involved the supply and installation of Mono equipment on behalf of Tarmac Topblock, and scooped first place in the 'User Application of the Year' category at the Awards.

Mono was praised for its excellent performance in working with Black and Veatch Refurbishments Limited (formerly Paterson Candy Refurbishments Limited) to provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly disposal solution for steam condensate at a Tarmac Topblock's concrete block manufacturing facility in West Sussex.

Mono Pumps Managing Director Paul Naylon received the Award from Mike Billingham, Managing Director of pump manufacturer KSB who sponsored the User Application category. "I'm delighted that we have been singled out for this honour," comments Paul Naylon. "It's particularly satisfying to win for the Tarmac Topblock project as it underlines the 'solutions provider' approach which Mono adopts towards its customers, rather than just being a pump manufacturer," he adds.

Mono's winning submission detailed the part the company played in helping create a method of transferring hot water from the Tarmac Topblock washdown sump to a treatment works. Created as part of its concrete block manufacturing process, the hot water has a high alkaline content. Mono worked as a sub-contractor to the main contractor Black and Veatch Refurbishments Ltd, and supplied a pair of vertical 'P Range' progressing cavity pumps, which deliver the water as part of Tarmac's policy of employing best environmental practice to the nearby waste water treatment plant where it is neutralised and recycled as part of Tarmac's policy of employing best environmental practice.

Mono's extensive input into the project included the custom design of the pumps, provision of control panels, ultrasonic level controls and stainless steel pipework, the installation of a swing jib, support platform and guard railing for the pump, and walkways over the sump, plus the commissioning and training of on-site personnel.

The presentations were made at a Gala Awards Ceremony held at The Britannia Royal Court Hotel in Coventry.
