MARK SELWAY APPOINTED CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF WEIR GROUP

Glasgow, May 29th: The Weir Group PLC announces the appointment of Mr Mark Selway as Chief Executive. He will take up his appointment on 5th June 2001.

Mark Selway has spent his career in the engineering industry, mainly with Britax PLC, and he has managed businesses in the UK, USA, Europe, the Far East and Australia.

He became a main Board Director of Britax in 1996 when he was appointed Managing Director of the Automotive Components Division. Following the purchase of that division by Schefenacker International AG in 2000, he became a main Board Director of that company and Executive Director of Schefenacker Vision Systems.

Commenting on the appointment, Sir Ron Garrick, Chairman of The Weir Group said: "Mark Selway's experience of running international engineering businesses is ideally suited to The Weir Group, which has successfully developed a global network of facilities, supplying technically enhanced products and services to a wide customer base. I look forward to working with him to accelerate the process of building shareholder value at Weir."
