Low Energy Consumption and Reliability for New Sewer Extension

17.10.2003

The decision to install Mono Munchpump packages in a new foul sewer extension has provided the Jersey Public Services Department with an effective solution to a specific sewage pumping requirement...

...whilst allowing them to maintain spares interchangeability and servicing consistency with other Mono equipment already in use on the island.

Located at the Mont a la Brune pumping station near St Brelade, the Munchpump packages consist of SB Munchers to macerate the sewage, and Monobloc B range progressing cavity pumps to transfer the sewage at a capacity of 15m3/h to full treatment.

Although the island authorities occasionally select submersible pumps for such applications, this particular pumping station had a low flow rate with a high-pressure discharge created by a long rising main. The positive displacement action of the Mono pump allows the speed to be set independent of pressure, allowing slow speed operation of the unit. This contributes significantly towards low wear rates, reduced energy consumption, extended component life and greater reliability of the overall pump package. Pump capacity can be set to generate a consistent and improved, sewage flow that helps improve effluent handling at small wastewater treatment plants. The efficient maceration of the sewage also eliminates the need to screen at inlet level, with no associated labour costs for disposal of screenings.

The Mono SB Muncher is a twin shaft, low speed high torque grinder. Each shaft is fitted with a series of interleaving cutters that allow liquid to pass through, trapping and macerating solids with their high-torque cutting action. Low operating and cutter tip speeds dramatically reduce mechanical wear, and also offers greatly reduced noise levels when compared to high-speed macerators. The Munchers dedicated control panel incorporates a logic control unit that automatically corrects equipment overload, therefore avoiding potential damage.

Munchpumps consume less than 50% of the energy of a comparable submersible pump and the SB Muncher is so effective as a sewage macerator that we offer a full 3-year warranty.
