The acquisition of Standard Alloys is part of the long range plan for increased service and repair capabilities in North America. The company brings to the group experience in Rapid Cast Technology (RCT) and engineering expertise in pump hydraulics. The company has a good reputation in the API market for solving customers pump related problems. KSB will leverage this experience and applied technology throughout its network of offices and service centers to bring a greater level of service and satisfaction to its customers.
One segment of Standard Alloys’ business is their pump retrofit program. This includes the manufacture of spare parts for pumps that are no longer in current production or for which no manufacturing documents are available. The company’s range of services is chiefly drawn by customers in southern Texas, an economically powerful and highly industrialized region in the USA.
Texas and neighboring Louisiana are home to more than fifty percent of all petrochemical plants in the USA. The fact that KSB is already active in this market via shut-off butterfly valves, supplied by Amri Inc. based in Houston, Texas, opens up synergies and opportunities to improve market coverage. The acquisition is intended to contribute to the development of the service market for pumps and valves in the southern part of the USA and in strategically important sectors such as the power plant and water management industries.
The company has two locations with a total employment of 90 people. The main facility located in Port Arthur, Texas houses engineering, administration, and foundry activities. Component machining, pump repair, and assembly take place in the Vidor location, approximately 20 miles away.
The acquisition of the company was completed in New York on July 29th, 2010.
