GL&V Improves Efficiency on Refining System
Montreal, September 21, 2001 – GL&V is pleased to announced that its subsidiary GL&V Pulp Group Inc. (Nashua, New Hampshire) has successfully replace three existing and operating refiners with one Beloit-Jones DDTM Refiner at the Valley Converting Mill in Toronto, Ohio.
The mill was running two Black Clawson conical refiners each coupled to a 400 HP motor, and one 20” Beloit-Jones DDTM 3000 refiner coupled to a 300 HP motor. This system was replaced with a single rebuilt 24” Beloit-Jones DDTM 4000 with an IMD and PRC-V with a 450 HP motor. Production and desired freeness drop were maintained.
Energy Savings — The original refiners were loaded to roughly 70% for a power consumption of 770 gross HP. The 24” Beloit-Jones DDTM refiner operates between a range of 272 to 318 gross HP, depending on the input freeness level. This new installation represented a power reduction of 59% for a power savings of 452 HP, and an annual power savings of over $150,000 at $0.05 kWh.
In addition to the improvement in energy consumption, there are savings in reduced downtime since fewer plates and fillings need to be replaced, and less maintenance with one refiner instead of three. The customer’s payback on this investment is roughly three months.
