Flygt M&C Keeps an Eye on New Motoreway
Monitoring equipment from pump solutions supplier, ITT Flygt, has been commissioned by Warboys Services Ltd to ensure the flows and levels of the pumping stations along the 23km stretch of new motorway are observed.

Working directly for Warboys as the project’s surface water pumping system contractor, Flygt provided a PC based fully integrated telemetry masterstation to manage real time information, and five Dynamic Logic D7000 series Telemetry Outstations.
The DBFO project for the Highways Agency involves the construction of a new 16km section of the A1(M) with four lanes in both directions between Darrington and Hook Moor, construction of a new interchange with the M62 at Ferrybridge, and a further 6.5km four lane A1(M) section at Wetherby all of which will be maintained for 30 years by RMS.
With a series of new pumping stations throughout the scheme to control the water discharged into water courses and an ecological penstock “fish haven” at the River Nidd for the protection of wildlife in a flood situation, these assets need to be properly monitored to gauge surface water run off levels and river flood levels.
Alan Moreland, senior contracts engineer of Warboys Services Limited, comments, “Flygt’s M&C products will allow us to monitor and control the resources as part of our service contract with RMS. If there is a problem with rainwater levels for example, the units will send an alarm back to our top end station and a SMS message to designated mobile phones so a crew can be dispatched to investigate immediately.”
