Eaton 2005 Power Quality Company of the Year

30.05.2005

Frost & Sullivan will present Eaton Corporation with the 2005 Power Quality Company of the Year Award at tonight's Excellence in Industrial Technologies Banquet.

For the second consecutive year, Eaton receives this Award for its demonstrated ability to increase market share and enhance the value of product ownership for its existing customers.

Eaton has grown at a fast pace in industries such as commercial construction, telecom, and industrial, with a strategic focus on increasing market growth rates and new product development and acquisitions.

"Eaton's power quality business has seen a significant growth in its revenues in 2004 mainly due to a well-planned and timely acquisition of Powerware Corporation," says Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Vishal Sapru. "This move enhanced the company's power quality business by $800 million and added uninterruptible power supply (UPS), direct current (DC) power system, power management software, and the power distribution unit (PDU) to its product portfolio."

In addition to Powerware, Eaton acquired Innovative Technology as a part of its 2002 acquisition of the electrical division of Delta plc, enabling it to lead in the hard-wired transient voltage surge suppressors (TVSS) market. With such a broad range of power quality products, Eaton is in a position to offer end users a total solutions package.

The company has invested in new product developments in power protection, power quality systems, services, and DC rectifiers and DC system segments. The prime focus has been building intelligence into its power quality products.

"Eaton's mission is to anticipate and exceed the expectations of our customers and become the best in class," stated Randy Carson, Eaton senior vice president and president, Electrical Group. "The company has established a strong sales and marketing team worldwide for marketing its power quality products and has appointed thousands of distributors and selected manufacturer's representatives to complement its sales force."

Eaton also cross-sells and up-sells its complete line of products to existing customers to augment revenues. Through targeted advertisements and promotions in trade journals, magazines, and trade shows, the company has built a high level of awareness in the industry.

"Eaton Electrical Services & Systems (formerly Cutler-Hammer Engineering Services and Systems or CHESS) is dedicated to installation, maintenance, and design support," notes Sapru.

The service comprises product-based solutions including turnkey project management, electrical plant monitoring and control, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, consulting, advisory support, power system studies, failure/root cause analysis, reliability analysis, power quality analysis, harmonic analysis, start-up and commissioning, acceptance testing, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) equipment servicing, system metering and control, and motor and programmable logic controller troubleshooting. In addition to these, it has a network of nearly 2,000 personnel who provide 24X7 response mechanism.

Frost & Sullivan presents its Company of the Year Award to the company that has demonstrated unparalleled excellence in terms of business development, competitive strategy, and customer service within its industry to capture market leadership. It recognizes outstanding management, consistent growth, and high-quality products and services, as well as a positive social and economic impact on local and national communities.

Held in Naples, Fla., Frost & Sullivan's Excellence in Industrial Technologies Awards Banquet honors world-class companies for outstanding performance and achievements in their industries. An annual event, the banquet recognizes the quality and merit of distinguished individuals and companies.
