Earth Tech Wins Two Contracts In The U.K.
Earth Tech, Inc. has been awarded two contracts by Yorkshire Water to upgrade wastewater treatment plants in the U.K.
A Tyco International Ltd. Company
Yorkshire Water awarded an USD $49.3 million (£25 million) contract to the Earth Tech/Morrison Construction joint venture to upgrade the Mitchell Laithes Wastewater Treatment Plant. This work is part of the first phase of Yorkshire Water’s strategy in the Spen Valley to decommission the wastewater treatment plant at North Bierley and Spenborough and transfer flows to Mitchell Laithes southeast of Dewsbury.
The improvements at the Mitchell Laithes plant will enable the facility to increase its current capacity of 1,380 liters per second (l/s) to 2,315 l/s and meet new effluent discharge consent standards imposed as a result of the Freshwater Fish Directive. This directive comes into effect in 2010 and aims to improve the quality of river water. The project work is due for completion by March 2010.
The second contract from Yorkshire Water, valued at USD $13.2 million (£6.7 million), tasks the Earth Tech/Morrison joint venture with upgrading a wastewater treatment plant at Lundwood near Barnsley. The project work includes construction of an activated sludge plant, two final settlement tanks, sludge treatment facilities and sludge storage tanks in an effort to improve the final effluent to meet the Freshwater Fish Directive standards and to increase the life of the existing treatment plant. Work is scheduled to be completed in early 2009.
“We’ve had a very successful partnership with Yorkshire Water for many years,” said Tony White, Managing Director for Earth Tech’s European operations. “Our experience in projects such as these will help Yorkshire Water meet its operational goals and commitments.”
