Crane to Sell Shares Under Sec Rule 144

October 29, 2003. Crane Co. announced that R. S. Evans, Chairman of the Board of Directors, has filed a Form 144 disclosing the intention to sell up to 200,000 shares of Crane Co. common stock in accordance with Rule 144 of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The shares to be sold represent about one-third of Mr. Evans' holdings of Crane Co. stock, excluding stock options. The sales are part of Mr. Evans' ongoing program of tax planning and asset diversification since his retirement in April 2001.

Crane Co. (NYSE:CR) is a diversified manufacturer of engineered industrial products.
